Cycling Trip to Huixian Wetland Area

The tour starts from and also ends in Guilin city, it requires a moderate level of your fitness. If you hate to see commercilized areas and normal attractions full of tourists and buses, this tour will be a good choice as a short exploration to the rural and off-the-beaten part around Guilin. Guests will meet the tour leader at 8:30 in the morning at the designated address at NO. 40 Sanduo Road of Guilin city.(Detail map where the tour starts),

Amongst dozens of karst hills, Guilin Huixian Wetland is a large underground river-fed plain in Huixian town of southwest Guilin (less known by foreigners but excellent for a visit). Now, there are 20 lakes and ponds remained in the wetland. Typically, this wetland presents an idyllic countryside scenery of rice paddies and rural villages.

After cycling about 45 kilometers, we arrived Mudong town, where the Huixian Wetland area locates. Usually we arrived at Mudong at 12:30-13:30. Everyone will have a simple lunch of the famous Guilin rice noddles at Mudong (or simple fastfood in small restaurant or snacks in grocery). Then we have a chance to take a rafting on the wetland rivers, it's optional and the price is from $13 - $35 per ship (3-4people available in each) based on seasons and the local policy. Or leisure walking on the walking path around the wetland park for 1-2 hours.

Near the famous Huixian Wetland,there exists a small ancient village, named The Blacksmith Village. The beautiful scenery and simple people will make you soon fall in love with it.The Blacksmith Village has a history of more than 400 years. The reason why it got this name is that the villagers once make a living on blacksmithing for generations. Almost all 80 families in the village were good at forging iron, such as axe, scythe, kitchen knife, etc.

While you walking into this village, you will hear a burst of tinkling forging iron sounds.Therefore, it would be a unique opportunity to get a peek at this fast-disappearing local traditional craft before it vanishes.

After  visit about ,we cycle from Mudong to Huixian town for simple fastfood lunch if everyone do not wish to take the rafting boat, then after lunch and rest.

A. Seeing lots of local farms, leisure restaurants, peaceful tracks located between the hills. We might even across the brooks and rice filed, everything is so close to nature.  
B. SPD shoes is ok for this tour before the trekking  the small hill to see the whole view.
C. The wetland is so huge that only hiking to a small hill can view all of it.
D. Thin trousers and long sleeve cycling jersey (or over sleeves at least) is more suitable than short one to protect us from the sunlight while on the bike and help us to protect the disturbing bug living in the rice field.
E. Mosquitoes are common in summer, they bites but NOT carrying any diseases, they just make you itch.
